About Us

The Wulugu Project is a different kind of overseas charity...
We don’t have large luxurious offices. We don’t pay high salaries - in fact all our work is done by volunteers and the money we spend doesn’t come from the lottery or from expensive fundraising campaigns - so we don’t have to plough it back into ever more fund raising, or ever more glossy publicity and advertising.

But although our budget is small, our impact on the lives of children, families and villages in Africa has been very large indeed, thanks mainly to the efforts of ordinary people.

In terms of benefits to real people per £ spent, we are probably the most effective charity you will ever come across.

And if you read on, we’ll tell you why.

How do we do it?

The contrast between our way of life and the way people live in the poorer parts of Africa is hard to imagine.

Here we have so much - perhaps too much. There people often have literally nothing - so that a rusty tin roof becomes a major status symbol. Things that we throw away because they are past their best are often priceless treasures in an African village - or in an unequipped school, where children who are desperate to learn do not even have a chair to sit on.

To be honest, we are a wasteful society. And if only we could move some of our waste to places where it would be useful, we could solve many of the world's problems - without spending large amounts of money.

And this is just what the Wulugu Project has been able to do!
